In pursuit of an adventurous lifestyle, time is the crucial variable. I have a quote at the top of my personal finances word doc, “Money comes and goes, but time only goes”. Probably not the words you’ll hear from a financial advisor. Money is important, but there are plenty of ways to get creative about funding adventure. Time is the most challenging to navigate—the one thing you can’t create more of.

Hiking, True Connection and Information Overload

I had a friend ask me a few years back why I like hiking. I was caught off guard by such a straightforward question. The answer was something I felt and internalized, but hadn’t spent much time trying to articulate. I struggle with the sentiment that technology has us more connected now than ever. We’re more distracted now than ever. We “connect” by sending videos, articles, and social media posts, by “thumbs upping”, “hahaing” and “hearting”. True connection is profound. But the word is overused and has lost meaning.

Texans may have to travel a little farther than your average American to access some of our best public lands. The other side of this coin is some of the most unique, remote areas in the US, including four International Dark Sky Parks. We’ve roamed all over Texas, with plenty still to explore, but here is our current “Texas Circuit”, our favorite hikes on public lands in the state.
